We begin in a small canteen, wherein a number of the diners have finished their meals and proceed towards the exit in a somewhat orderly manner. A number of other citizens then assemble on the street in a diagonal formation and perform their call to arms – the multiple clicking of their respective fingers. Big boys stuff I’m sure you can agree ladies and gentlemen, and fear has already been struck into my heart. A number of other people crawl out of the sewers (presumably towards the same location), whilst in the local pool club (which one assumes is a user of the local sewers) a number of other concerned folk begin to arise from their matches, again one assumes to join this gathering, this coming together of friends and the such like.

They walk out of the pool club whilst a woman (who is flouting the smoking ban in quite full view) gazes on with a facial expression representing a potent mix of curiosity, fear and hunger. The gatherings diversity is further increased when a chap kindly helps someone else to put on their coat (he would have been even kinder to suggest an alternative jacket but there you go), whilst another chap wearing attire hardly befitting the situation kisses his girlfriend – possibly for the last time. For this gathering appears to be a full bloodied war, one that could potentially shake the world – or at least the town centre of this particular locale.

These groups of people advance upon each other whilst a concerned looking Michael Jackson talks to himself on his bed – its not exactly cowering, whilst its not exactly marching up and telling them to put an end to this silly nonsense – so quite what MJ is attempting to achieve here is unclear, and one would hope will clear up as the plot thickens. Which it subsequently does, with MJ looking as if (and then) he is going to get out of his bed! He does this with shuddery violent dance moves which look horribly forced, and as if he is trying to impress someone but failing miserably.

The video then switches back to the earlier events, with these local youths and men hitching rides on the backs of trucks (something which is hardly going to do the suspension of these respective vehicles any good). Meanwhile, as opposed to simply walking (or even running) down to the presumed fight locale, MJ is using the method of interpretive dance to get him from Point A to Point B, albeit with a hell of a lot of style. Indeed, if he actually undertook continuous motion instead of just stopping to pose with a chair he might get to the scene a lot quicker and defuse the situation with comparable ease. He then suddenly teleports to the pool club, though does not appear to show any intention of actually paying pool (a bit of a wasted entrance fee then), which would make for a great video.

The secondary plot takes centre stage once again, with a lord of the rings-esque pan of the gathering forces, revealing in full glory just how bad an era the eighties were for fashion, hair, and other such paraphernalia. Then shortly after this is arguably the poorest fight scene on the age, with the two battlers engaging in a “oh, my knife is bigger than yours!” styles debate, then performing a war dance to show that yes, they really are going to fight. They then attempt to stab each other in a really pathetic manner whilst their comrades dance around them.

Michael Jackson then arrives on the scene! This is met with surprisingly little joy (everyone is too busy dancing to notice this imitation lord of the dance), until he breaks up the fight – a fight wherein death was not impossible, a fight obviously over a massive issue – and through the form of interpretive dance, he convinces them not to fight any more. Which is a credible achievement indeed, if somewhat Hollywood in its nature.

Cue interesting dance routines.

Cue more interesting dance routines.

Cue some of the dancers appearing to have a stroke instead of actually dancing.
