Hello, is it me you're looking for?
Well it would appear that Lionel Richie has made an imaginary friend figure out of whoever the subject of this song is. Some might find this endearing and romantic, I however find it creepy. I would be quite worried if anyone decided to turn me into their imaginary friend, and this would be for a number of key reasons that I don't really have time to go into here.
Still this is creepy behaviour. He has created his own image of whoever the subject is within his mind, and within his mind he enjoys a very satisfying and romantic life with this "being" - what the subject thinks of this however is anyone's guess. Sometimes also Lionel, clearly watching by his front window as the subject walks past his home on their daily commute, can see the subject stroll past his front door - in reality this is because his house lies on a throughway and not because she is going "OMG LIONEL LIVES THERE I'M GONNA WALK PASTTTT" mainly because clearly she has disdain toward Lionel if he can only imagine spending time with her.
Lionel then skips ahead in time and envisages some sort of sexual harassment case - is it he that she is looking for? Well, yes, because you're a "sexist pig".

Lionel can see the fear in the eyes of his stalkee. I can see it in the way that she tries to grin and bear it as he bears down on her, imagining how she would look hanging from his ceiling. These are dark dark territories that we're entering here dear reader but then again this would appear to be a dark dark song, dealing with issues such as stalking and sexual harassment. Lionel continues by stating his absolute obsession with her, saying that she is all that he has ever wanted (a statement and a half surely - not an ipod? No tv? Nothing?) - but the reasons he gives for the subject being all that he has ever wanted and needed are quite perplexing really.
Firstly, because she knows what to say. A quality that is to be admired and yes cherished, but at the same time is it really something that you would base an entire obsession over? The answer here really would have to be no. Secondly (and on a very similar theme) it would appear as though his stalkee knows exactly what actions are right at the right moment (mine here would be to find a solicitor as Lionel is rich and could probably be sued big time, somehow) - and ultimately due to these two, er, attributes (and nothing else) Lionel decrees that he wishes to tell the subject how much he loves her and he wants to do this oh so much.

Hello, I've just got to let you know
And so Lionel and his bizarre little nuances continue. He would quite like to see the sunlight through the hair of his subject - I am unsure as to whether this means in his latest stalkery obsession he would like to turn his subjects hair into curtains or blinds (quite a radical step I'm sure you'll agree) or whether this is something that my little mind is just incapable of comprehending.
He also wants to tell the subject time and again how much he cares - something which in the past might have been difficult with a restraining order placed upon him but these days with mobile phones, social media and the advent of people putting their own content online it won't be too hard for Lionel to put the message out there that he does indeed like this girl quite a lot - is it possible to stalk over Twitter? It really must be.
Lionel feels as though his heart will overflow and therefore this girl must listen to him unless she wants the fact that he will subsequently suffer a cardiac arrest on her conscience - and during this time of heightened heart disease awareness surely no-one would want that much reminding.
Ultimately it would appear as though Lionel is going to finish worse off for this obsession and that he will be hurt - most hurt indeed. Hurt by the woman he loved, and pouring this hurt into his glorious music.

It would appear that PartnerTracker has not worked and that Lionel is still wondering where the alleged love of his life has disappeared to. He wants to know how his love is doing, and it would appear that the restraining order has proved too much of a burden for him to keep in touch with her. He hopes that she feels lonely and that no-one else loves her because Lionel Richie is a bit of a bastard really (ish). He still harbours ambitions that he could win her over using exactly the same tactics he did before; not a great move if we're being honest.
