Katy Perry - Hot and Cold
Ah yes, the song with a chorus that was just made for Question of Sport clipmixes - this is Dave's look at Katy Perry and her board of fare.
You change your mind Like a girl changes clothes Yeah, you PMS like a bitch I would know
Katy is accusing someone of changing their mind like a girl changes clothes. This offers a number of possible outcomes, as it could mean someone changes their mind as many times as the amount of times a girl changes clothes, which despite the over-generalization, is an awful lot in my experience. Although if this were the case surely Katy means "you change your mind, as much as a girl changes clothes." What the comment could mean, in lieu of this grammatical ambiguity, is that the person literally tries on different thoughts for size, and probably decides not to buy anything as the sheer thrill of trying on clothes, that one could never afford, is a thrill enough.
Now Katy also claims that her friend PMS's like a bitch and that she would know. This is interesting as Katy is basically claiming that she herself is a bitch and is surprisingly self-deprecating. Although has anything Katy's done so far not been self-deprecating in some way - be it kissing girls all over the place, or posing with knives and causing moral outrage in the tabloids. I assume that Katy is attempting to make the claim that her friend, who is probably male, suffers from PMS which is pretty cold considering the gender differences and such. It's a shame that Katy took a bold and powerful statement and managed to insult herself in the process.
And you always think
Always speak cryptically
I should know
That you're no good for me
It's clear that Katy likes things to be spelt out for her to understand, as she's not a fan of reading between the lines. As a result she's utterly bewildered as to why she's going out with a man who speaks like this. Then again if someone kept speaking to you in riddles then you too would probably lose patience. Imagine a simple household conversation like where are the car keys is answered with a statements like "the keys are somewhere that is north but south at the same time"? You'd get sick of that pretty damn quickly.
'Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in and you're out
You're up and you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up
Katy's even made a list of some of the mind-games that her friend has been playing with her like 'hot and cold' where hot means you are getting closer to the thing you are looking for. I have no idea how the up and down part could work, unless she has a problem with him being upstairs when she's downstairs or vice-verca. If this is the case maybe she should consider moving into a bungalow to solve this problem.
You, you don't really wanna stay, no
You, but you don't really wanna go, oh
Well looks like moving to a bungalow may be off the cards as Katy's boyfriend doesn't like the idea of moving too much. Perhaps the house has sentimental value to him?
We used to be just like twins, so in sync
The same energy now's a dead battery
Used to laugh 'bout nothing
Now you're plain boring
I should know
That you're not gonna change
I don't like the incestial implications Katy's making about her lover. Maybe she sees her boyfriend as being like her brother (if she even has one, and I hope not if this is the way she treats her brothers!?). Well either way that's in the past now as Katy's grown utterly bored of her boyfriend, and a good thing too. It's strange that Katy relates her relationship to being like a battery, although has she ever heard of rechargables? Maybe she needs to date a set of Energizer rechargeable's instead.
Someone call the doctor
Got a case of a love bipolar
Stuck on a rollercoaster
Can't get off this ride
I'd laugh if Katy actually went to the doctor claiming she had a case of love bipolar, as I doubt any serious medical professional would take a good view of her wasting his/her time. Meanwhile Katy somehow is stuck on a rollercoaster that won't stop, which is what you end up with if you go on some of the rides, at these travelling fairgrounds. She probably paid a fortune to get on the thing in the first place too.
