The Killers - Human

"Are we human, or are we dancer" - Need I say more? Well, yes, as it would seem.

I did my best to notice
When the call came down the line
Up to the platform of surrender
I was brought but I was kind
And sometimes I get nervous
When I see an open door
Close your eyes
Clear your heart...
Cut the cord

Brandon Flowers is awake and awash with a state of confusion. He has done his utmost to notice when his house received a phone call; once he receives this phone call he has designs to retreat up toward the platform of surrender (the balcony of his 52-bedroom mansion then). Sometimes Brandon also gets nervous, bless him - this particularly happens when he sees an open door (this can be easily cured by installing fire doors, which come with the added bonus of ensuring that his house has an added element of protection from fires should one start, and his belongings can be safer then they would have otherwise been).

He then asks the subject of the song to close their eyes and to clear their heart, much like how one would clear their palate after eating a particularly tasty dish. This I feel is asking quite a significant amount of the broken hearted as (not that I would know) love can leave damaging scars, and clearing them instantly is a bit impossible. Brandon however would appear to be cold hearted and wishes for the subject to cut the metaphorical cord from their previous subject (unless you read this in a different way and he's telling someone to stop loving and to start ignoring their mother...quite a demand).

Are we human?
Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital
My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees
Looking for the answer
Are we human?
Or are we dancer?

Brandon Flowers has a question for the masses, one which has provoked much debate in the contemporary media. Are we human or, indeed, do we dance? There are a number of fundamental problems with the question even before we consider the answer.

Firstly, people are actually capable of both being human and dancing at the same time; I may have a different point of view stumbling through Tiger Tiger on a Monday night (or indeed any other establishment but it is most prominent in Tiger Tiger) when some so-and-so bangs into you when they are allegedly dancing - but most of the time whenever I see people dancing I do indeed sit there and think to myself "yes, oh yes - they are human and they are indeed dancing."

Secondly, is Brandon Flowers actually a human? Some would argue that being a Mormon, this could be absolutely true - however I have a different opinion. I don't think anyone capable of writing some of the lines out of Somebody Told Me, When You Were Young and All These Things that I've Done could, well, experience the same normal thoughts as a human being. At times his reasoning and wording is like that of Yoda; this isn't necessarily a bad thing (and I'll give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to looks; he is just about better than Yoda, and in the same league as Chewbacca).

Thirdly, Brandon Flowers' statement is grammatically incorrect. Now I am not going to criticise him for this, for all I know he could well be dyslexic (although some would argue that dyslexia is a fictitious "disease" - over 6 million registered cases in the UK and, err, none anywhere else pretty much but we'll get over that one shall we) and suffer from educational disorders.

We then need to look at the rest of this choral statement. Flowers believes that his sign (basically an insignia of himself) is absolutely vital (wow, imagine Brandon Flowers with an ego...) and that we all must help him find the answer to this ever-vital question; one which I have just answered anyway. Problem solved.

Pay my respects to grace and virtue
Send my condolences to good
Give my regards to soul and romance,
They always did the best they could
And so long to devotion
You taught me everything I know
Wave goodbye
Wish me well..
You've gotta let me go

Brandon Flowers wants to pay his respects and dues to the concepts of "grace and virtue". I'm not quite sure what he's got in mind here as it's while it's easy to toast a non-physical entity I feel there are bigger and better things for Brandon to toast. He carries on saying that he wants to give certain elements of respect to these concepts and I mean that's cool and that, but as lyricality goes its hardly inspiring.

At the end of it all though, Brandon seemingly wants us to let him go. I didn't realise I had him in my possession - although if I did I think I would utilise his charm and dress-sense to make him my butler/doorman. I think if you were entering Barnett Towers (as many a high profile client, er, has) then Brandon Flowers would be the sort of first impression I'd like you to have. Although it would not be permissible for him to sing - not one word.

Just a "Hello and welcome to Thomas Barnett's house" would suffice.

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know is your heart still beating

Brandon Flowers wants to know if the subjects sound system will be alright - presumably it's been playing some of his music (bitchy and predictable). Flowers also claims to not receive any messages left to him by either contemporaries or by followers - surely this can only act as a disheartening measure for fans, or "The Victims".
